Find Guidance Through the Citizenship Process

Achieving US citizenship through the naturalization process is a challenging task. There are a lot of legal steps in the process, and it's important to make sure you file all the proper paperwork to succeed.

You can rely on International Law Group PA for clear guidance through the citizenship process. We work with legal permanent residents (LPRs) and their children to achieve their citizenship dreams. Call us today to schedule an appointment. Sunday and emergency appointments are available.

An Overview of US Citizenship

Becoming a US citizen is a complicated procedure. The outline below highlights some of the major requirements and steps as specified by the US Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS), but it should not be taken as a complete list. Call International Law Group PA for more details.

The naturalization process enables green card holders (legal permanent residents) to become US citizens. In order to complete the naturalization process, applicants must meet certain requirements.

  • They must be legal permanent residents in the US.
  • They must have have LPR status for at least five years, unless they are married to a U.S. citizen, in which case they must have LPR status for three years.
  • They must have resided in the United States for at least 50 percent of the time they have had LPR status (either 1.5 or 2.5 years).
  • They have to have lived in the state they are filing their petition in for at least three months prior to submitting their application.
  • They need to be able to speak, write, and read English (except under certain special circumstances).
  • They must possess knowledge and understanding of US history and our government structure.
  • They must display good moral character, a belief in the Constitution, and a willingness to make positive contributions to US society.
  • They must be at least 18 years old when submitting an application. Minors may be eligible for automatic citizenship if they are under 18 at the time one of their parents becomes naturalized.

Crimes a lawful permanent resident committed after obtaining their LPR status can cause their naturalization petition to be rejected and can even result in the loss of their green card. If you have a criminal record, we will help you choose a course of action that works best for you.
